It was a glorious day for our inaugural 10km Juvenile Relay on Sunday and over fifty young athletes turned out to proudly represent our club as part of the “Pride of Club Showpiece” run in conjunction with Kildare Derby Festival. The relay was led off by Darragh Hayes just before 3:30pm and to the surprise of most of the adults the relay was complete in an astonishing 36 minutes and 12 seconds. Jennifer Wallace took the baton for the last lap, heading the 50 other participants and providing a great sight of the red singlets spread over 50 meters around the track. In between our oldest to our youngest members ran the 200 meters of their lives with breath taking speed. The committee would like to thank all the kids who took part and all the adults for their attendance and their encouragement. Second to the participation was the small matter of “guess the time” which was shared between two—Paul Madsen and Brian Walsh who got within 3 seconds guessing 36:15. Special thanks to Kildare Town Soccer Club for accommodating us on the day and Kildare Farm Foods for the vital bottles of water for the kids. The lap-by-lap breakdown is available here.
